Innovation in road freight transport: achievements and challenges

This report begins by asking what drives innovation in the road freight sector. It then presents a classification of innovations in this sector and provides brief reviews of the main innovative developments affecting the movement of freight by road and / or likely to exert a strong influence in the future. Later sections examine the factors inhibiting the diffusion of innovation in the trucking industry and the role of public policy in overcoming barriers to implementation and incentivising the uptake of innovations likely to yield wider benefits for the economy, environment and community.
