The growth of container volumes and increasing size of container vessels is not only putting pressure on hub ports; it also requires upgrading of transport infrastructure across port hinterlands.  This report, prepared for an OECD / International Transport Forum workshop in Santiago, Chile, provides an overview of the state-of-the-art in hinterland transport management, focusing on the infrastructural challenges that the development of a large new container port can present.  It outlines good practice case studies and makes several recommendations.
