Assessing and improving countries' logistics skills and training.
It is now widely acknowledged that there is a global shortage of people with the right skills to meet the evolving needs of the logistics industry. Governments have an important role in assessing the extent of logistics skill shortages and taking action to ease the problem, particularly in lower-income countries. Following its initial study for the World Bank examining the nature and extent of logistics skill shortages, KLU was commissioned by the Bank to develop a toolkit that governments could use to gain a quick but comprehensive overview of the logistics skills and training situation in their countries. This paper outlines the toolkit and explains how it was derived. The toolkit was successfully piloted in the West African state of Togo in early 2017.
