Alan McKinnon – Professor of Logistics

4 June 2025

Inaugural Logistics UK Annual Conference

Logistics UK is one of the largest industry associations in the UK with a membership of over 21,000 businesses , both users and providers of logistics services.  Its inaugural Annual Conference was held in the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London on the 4 June 2025.  The programme included an on-stage conversation between Mike Garratt, co-founder and chairman of the consultancy firm MDS Transmodal Ltd and me about a range of logistics and supply chain megatrends. Mike and I just missed each other at the University of Leicester in 1979, as he left just before I arrived.  We  went on to pursue careers in freight transport/logistics spanning five decades, Mike as a consultant, me as an academic. We reckon that it was at this Logistics UK conference that we met for the first time.  Despite this, we were in broad agreement on the many issues we discussed, including the current reshaping of trade patterns and supply chains, the decarbonisation of logistics, the changing structure of the logistics services market and supply chain resilience. Many thanks to Logistics UK for bringing us together and to Mike for partnering with me in this conference ‘double act’.
