Keynote Address to Kick-off Meeting of EU IKIGAI project in Rome

IKIGAI is a new EU-funded project that aims to accelerate the realisation of the Physical Internet by 2040 and thereby help to achieve decarbonised freight transport and logistics in Europe by 2050.  It is a 42-month industry-led project, demonstrating the application of a series of disruptive logistics innovations that collectively could yield major improvements in efficiency and competitiveness while sharply reducing emissions.

I gave a keynote address to the project’s Kick-off Meeting in Rome on the 9th June, in which I outlined my concept of Climate Logistics and presented the case for ‘extending the research and planning frontier beyond decarbonisation’.  My presentation included a brief progress report on the decarbonisation of freight transport in the EU.  Copy of the presentation.

ALICE, the European Technology Platform for Logistics, one of the main participants in the IKIGAI project has posted a very good summary of my speech on its website.

The IKIGAI project is establishing a Nishida Circle of logistics specialists to provide independent advice, insights and networking support.   I have accepted an invitation to become a member of this Circle and look forward to working with the team over the next few years.
