Eurolog 2018 Conference, Marrakech

For the first time, the annual conference of the European Logistics Association (Eurolog 2018) is being held outside Europe - in Morocco, admittedly only 13km from Europe across the Straits of Gibraltar.   The event is being organised by the Moroccan Agency for Logistics Development (AMDL) and combined with the large LogisMed exhibition.  Morocco is a country which regards logistics as one of its main industries, as demonstrated by the participation of its head of government and transport minister in the opening ceremony of the Eurolog 2018 conference.

I am making two contributions to the conference.

1. Presentation to a session on the sustainability of logistics operations.  This is examining the relationship between the decarbonisation of logistics and efforts to improve its wider environmental sustainability.  My conclusion is that the two sets of objectives are well aligned though I identify four areas in which efforts to cut CO2 emissions and to reduce other environmental impacts are in conflict.

2. Presentation at the European Logistics Association’s ‘Research Day’ on the third day of the Eurolog2018 conference.  This summarises the results of our study for the World Bank on logistics skill shortages and reviews wider employment issues in logistics.
