The President of the Republic of Costa Rica,  Carlos Alvarado Quesada, the country’s trade and science ministers and several senior government officials visited Kuehne Logistics University on the 28th May 2019.  The President gave an inspiring speech on the development of Costa Rica, focusing on its transport system and ambitious environmental targets and plans.  I then gave a lecture on the decarbonisation of freight transport, outlining possible lessons for Costa Rica from other countries. As the country is aiming to be carbon neutral within the next few years, it sets a wonderful example to the rest of the world.  99% of Costa Rica’s electricity comes from renewable source.  It has also increased the proportion of its land mass covered in forest from 20% to 52% over the past few decades.
